The New Concept of Coping with Layoffs:  "Changing Life" Model: New Reality Corporation©

This research project may take approximately 10 months to complete.

The participating organization will appoint a vice president or senior vice president (i.e., mediator or CES) to oversee the process and organize all events.

Task 1:  A minimum of 9 personnel, who are being laid off, will meet with the CEO one-on-one or all in a company meeting. The CEO will explain why the lay offs are necessary. Mediator must document questions and responses (tape recording and video taping are allowed for the organization's records, however, not required for this study).

Task 2:  Mediator will task each division leader to ensure that each personnel has a current resume and generic cover letter. Each resume will be critique for consistency, errors, and so forth by the division head. Once critiqued, these resumes and signed cover letter are to be collected and forwarded to a single recruiter of the organization's choice. Mediator will compose a questionnaire that inquiring about what these personnel plan to accomplish once the lay off is official.

Task 3: The recruiter will submit a monthly report on letterhead of the number of former employees that have found employment. The recruiter will not provide names and job locations.

Task 4: Mediator will follow up to see who has enrolled in an educational program.

Kicker 1: Prior to leaving and in addition to the benefits that the organization has decided to extend to these personnel, personnel are to be presented with an additional personal care package, which includes:

    (a) A gift certificate to a local day spa. Massages are said to relax the mind and body.

    (b) A check for $750.00 (by F500/F1000 organization) or $350.00 (by other organizations) paid to a University or Technical school that offers what that personnel wishes to pursue. These checks must have an expiration date of 7 months. This allows for time of enrollment and acceptance.

    (c) A check made out to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), which will cover the cost for at least 3 months so personnel can have access to the Internet in order to apply for positions online.

Kicker 2:  In the 9th month, participating organization will pay $1,000.00 (made out to the University) to enrolled students, who submit a 3-page type written report to the Mediator, which answer and elaborate on the following:

This concept helps personnel view the organizations in a positive manner: "The organization cares about my future" is the image that the organization wants to represent.

Mediator:  Must submit monthly reports to the Firm. The report should indicate what has been done, the answer and questions in the meetings, number laid off in that month,  and so forth. The recruiter must also provide monthly statistics to the organization. A copy of the recruiter's report must accompany the mediator's monthly report. The mediator's final report, students' 3-page reports, and recruiter's statistics must be submitted to the Firm within 3 weeks upon completion of the study. The mediator's final report should also elaborate on the following:
