The New Concept of Balancing Work and Family Lifestyles: "Business Conception" Model: New Reality Corporation©

This research project may take approximately 15 months to complete.

The participating organization will appoint a male vice president or senior vice president (i.e., mediator or CES) to oversee the process.

A minimum of 6 employees have to participate in this study:  2 men and 4 women. A doctor's note indicating that the participant or wife of participant is pregnant is required.

Day 1 through 3:  Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays    Day 4: Thursdays    Day 5: Fridays

First Trimester:

The mediator will organize all programs, solicit participants, and contract consultants to present the courses and a certified massage therapist to give massages. All fees will be paid by the participating organization.

Second Trimester:

All participants will be placed on a 4-day work schedule with full benefits at the beginning of their second trimester.

Day 5:  Participants are to:

        (a) Attend a 1/2-day course: "Coping With Work and Being Pregnant"; Return home; and Write a 1-page report, which addresses the topic.

        (b) Go over reports with other participants; Receive a massage; Return home.

        (c)  Attend a 1/2-day course: "Eating Right While on the Job While Pregnant"; Return home; and Write a 1-page report, which addresses the topic.

        (d) Go over reports with other participants; Receive a massage; and Return home.

        (e) Attend a 1/2-day class:  "How to Cope with a Pregnant Employee"; Go home; Write a 1-page report, which addresses the topic.

        (f) Go over reports with other participants; Get a massage; Go home.

Third Trimester:

All participants will be placed on a 3-day work schedule with full benefits at the beginning of their third trimester.

Day 4:  Participants are to:

        (a) Come to work; Receive a massage; and Work with a committee that will organize an annual family day event that will take place every year on the same day, which will represent the births of the babies and the reality of being pregnant and working. 

        (b) Use this day for doctor visits, and participants will not be charged sick leave if appointment is on Day 4.

Day 5:  Participants are to:

        (a) Attend a 1/2- day course: "Custodian and Non-Custodian Parents/Absent Parent: Effect on Work"; Return home; and Write a 1-page report, which addresses the topic.

        (b) Go over reports with other participants; Receive a massage; Return home.

        (c) Attend a 1/2-day course: "Balancing the Professional and Personal Life". Return home; and Write a 1-page report, which addresses this topic and also describe how family members have or have not been supportive.

        (d) Go over reports with other participants; Receive a massage; Return home.

        (e) Attend a 1/2- day course: "The Working Spouse: I am Ready to go Back to Work Too!" This course should address how working women may feel when when they are on their leave of absence after child birth. Return home, and Write a 1-page report, which addresses the topic.

         (f) Go over reports with other participants; Receive a massage; Return home.

Kicker 1: Of the 6 participants, one female has to be an African American and one male's ethnic background is other than Caucasian American.

Kicker 2:  Participants will bring in a "healthy" dish for other pregnant employees within the organization once a week.  To be organized by mediator.

HAVE A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE BABY AND CONGRATULATIONS!

Kicker 3:  Open a daycare within the organization or form a partnership with a local daycare that is willing to extend their hours of operation to compensate those who work extended hours.

Kicker 4:  Once all the babies are born, their names will be placed on the "  (_name of organization_ Baby Hall of Fame", which will be displayed at the Headquarters of the organization.

Kicker 5:  After the participants' 12 weeks leave of absence, the original participants have to mentor a pregnant employee for 1 month and bring that employee with him/her to the final 2 hr meeting, which will be determined by mediator. The original 6 participants will write a 5-page final report, which will include their names, experiences and their baby's names, age, and marital status if they wish to disclose. Their reports should answer and elaborate on the following:

Kicker 6: The original 6 participants are to receive a gift certificate in the amount of $500.00 to purchase baby items.

Mediator:  Submit a preliminary itinerary to the Firm. Document most observations (i.e., how the team interacts, the progress of the team, whether the method is going as planned and efficient, and so forth) and submit a report at the end of trimester 1, 2, and 3 along with participants 1-page reports. At the end of the journey, participants' 5-page reports along with the Mediator's final monthly findings must be submitted to the Firm within 3 weeks. The final report should include how this case study has built an environment to recognize the importance of
