QUALITATIVE INSTRUMENT
Reliability/Validity

[Analysis of the Pilot Study's Data]

Emergent (Implicit) Coding
: Categories [data sets] are established after preliminary examination of the data (Stemler, 2001)

a priori (Explicit) Coding: Categories [data sets] are established before the analysis based upon some theory or concept (Stemler, 2001)

Contextual Analysis: Coding meaningful terms or small phrases derived from questions.

Reliability: "The consistency with which a measuring instrument performs" (Leedy, 1997, p. 35). After any study, the data from various participants can be compared to determine consistency--as presented by the data and not necessary by what the researcher intended. If consistent between data sets, the instrument may be deemed reliable.

Reliability of Instruments: "Refers to how well the instrument consistently yields similar results" (Leedy, 1997, p. 35). After the pilot test, the instrument is retested when the researcher conducts the actual study.

Findings: Describe patterns (relationships) and provide assessment of questions and the questionnaire (Leedy, 1997; Collins, 2003). However, before data can be compared, patterns and themes must emerge.

Internal Validity: Involves remaining free "from bias in forming conclusions in view of the data" (Leedy, 1997, p. 34). While comparing data, the observer should make all attempts to remain bias.

External Validity: Involves generalizing the conclusion reached through observation of a sample to the universe or other cases (Leedy, 1997). After the findings have been presented, the instrument can be retested using different participants and variables.

Even after transcription, documents may need extensive editing [smart copy]. This process also include awaiting researcher to send transcript back to participants to verify responses [transcript validity--not member checking process]. For detailed editing to the merged documents, add an additional $500.00. The data that are loaded into the software are what come out in the coding process and report.

When signed and payment are received, analysis will commence. Allow up to 10-20 days for return of final documents (i.e., reports--in Word and/or text format) and/or another 10-20 days if conducting transcription validity checks (when participants review the merged transcript not the themes). The Firm does not guarantee that instrument will obtained the data needed or desire results. No refunds will be provided once signed service contract (invoice) is received with payment.
